The purpose of the organization is to serve four functions.
These functions are : 1) to provide support for gays, lesbians, bisexuals,
their friends and allies; 2) to educate the campus and community about
gay. lesbian, and bisexual issues; 3) to provide a social setting
conducive to positive interaction for the aforementioned individuals; 4)
to foster an environment that should make others aware of gay, lesbian,
and bisexual issues while providing a visible standpoint on such
issues.

The purpose of the LGBT
Office:
 | Educate the University community about lesbians, gay
males, and bisexuals through programs offered through or arranged in
conjunction with other student organizations.
 | Serve as a resource to lesbians, gay males, and
bisexuals by developing formal links with the community and providing
a supportive environment to students.
 | Recommend to the administration those policies,
curricular initiatives and services that must be developed to address
the needs of lesbians, gay males, and bisexuals, and increase safety
for these individuals, and reduce prejudice throughout the University
Community.
 | Staff sufficiently the Lesbian, Gay Males, Bisexuals
Services Office to keep the Administration abreast of Legislations,
Federal and Local, Regulations that affect students attending EMU. |

The Alliance of Lesbian-Bi-Gay-Transgendered and Straight
Students (ALBGTS) at Michigan State University is a student-run
organization, designed with a threefold purpose:
 | To provide the lesbian, bisexual, gay and
transgendered community of MSU with a safe and welcoming environment,
 | To provide the entire MSU community with a resource
by which they may educate themselves and others about the
lesbian-bi-gay and transgendered communities, and
 | To help break down the barriers of prejudice and
discrimination, promote diversity, and faciliatate interaction between
the LBGT and straight communities of MSU. |
